Privacy
What happens to your data when you visit Damn Good Ads: no cookies, no accounts and no ads, just anonymous visit counts from two analytics tools.
Damn Good Ads has no accounts, sign-up forms, comments or advertising of its own. We don't set cookies, and we don't sell or share anything about you.
Visit counts
We count visits with Plausible and Ahrefs Web Analytics. Both are built not to identify you:
- They set no cookies, and they don't follow you to other websites or from one day to the next.
- Between them they record the page you visited, the site that sent you, your browser, language, device and screen size, and your rough location, no finer than a city.
- They use your IP address only to work out that location and a visitor count that resets every day. Neither one stores it.
We see totals, such as how many people read a page and where they came from, never a record of one person's visits.
Videos and images
Pages also load files from other services, which see your IP address the way any website you visit does:
- YouTube. Ad pages play videos in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and many show a still from YouTube. When you play a video, Google's privacy policy applies.
- Archives. Scans of old posters and print ads load from Wikimedia Commons, the Internet Archive, the Library of Congress and the Wellcome Collection.
Hosting
Vercel hosts the site, so it handles your IP address to deliver each page.
Your rights
Damn Good Ads is run by Nicheless Inc. If you live in the UK or the EU, you can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. We don't store anything that identifies you, so there is usually nothing to find, but we will check. Write to louis@nicheless.com.
