Shot on iPhone 6.
Why it works
The largest photography exhibition ever mounted — as an ad campaign. Apple selected images from 162 ordinary iPhone users and ran them, uncredited to any professional, across more than 10,000 outdoor sites in 73 cities and 25 countries: no copy beyond "Shot on iPhone 6." The product claim (camera quality) is proven by the medium itself; the users become the creative department. It won the Outdoor Grand Prix at Cannes in 2015 — jury president Juan Carlos Ortiz called it "not just a great idea, it's a game changer" — and, a decade on, the still-running platform took the 2025 Creative Effectiveness Grand Prix. It is studied as the definitive user-generated-content campaign and a masterclass in restraint: the best demonstration of a camera is simply what it shot.
Techniques
- Demonstration Billboards show nothing but photographs taken by ordinary users, so the camera's quality is proved by what it shot.
- Participation Customers' own pictures fill thousands of outdoor sites, making iPhone users the campaign's creative department.
