Why it works

A film of seven minutes and 23 seconds, released online on 30 October 2020 by the Taiwanese real-estate company Sinyi Realty. It follows a young clerk at a household registration office who records marriages and divorces all day, watches the divorces outnumber the weddings and quietly loses faith in commitment, until an elderly widower still devoted to his late wife persuades her that love can last, and she agrees to marry her boyfriend. It is studied as long-form brand storytelling in a category people buy from rarely: rather than selling homes, the film argues for the trust that leads couples to set one up, a link the agency drew because newlyweds are a core source of property buyers. The agency reported more than four million views within a week, and the ad-review platform Judge_Ad named it Taiwan's most shared ad of 2020. It won the Entertainment Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2021, the first Cannes Grand Prix for an agency in Taiwan.

Techniques

  • Storytelling A seven-minute film follows a registry clerk who loses faith in commitment until a devoted widower persuades her that love can last.
  • Pathos Rather than selling homes, it moves viewers with tenderness about lasting love, attaching to the brand the trust that leads couples to set up home.
